More than 11k raised at MND fundraiser

A phenomenal amount of $11,454.40 was raised at the Motor Neurone Disease Dunk Tank Fundraiser held at Apex Park, Echuca, on September 11.

More than 250 people attended the fundraiser to enjoy a dunk tank, pony rides, jumping castles, races, face painting and a petting zoo-type setup.

One of the organisers of the event, Naomi Diehm, said 10 volunteers put their hand up to be dunked in the tank.

“Boy, did the kids line up to dunk them,” she said.

“It was lots of fun watching people hit and miss. There were a few cheeky moments when the target was purposely pushed to dunk the volunteer.

“There were so many great things about the day but the one thing for me was seeing everyone smiling and laughing having fun and enjoying the day.”

Ms Diehm said the organisers are hoping to run the same event next year in October.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped on the day and all of the businesses that supported our event to make it a successful day,” she said.

“Creating awareness about MND is important because we don’t know why people are diagnosed, what causes it or what the cure is.

“Funds raised by events like this go towards the researching of cures and also supports people with MND through daily life by providing them with wheelchairs or fitting out their homes with railings.”
