The league is preparing to introduce the idea of a floating fixture should the need arise depending on the COVID-19 situation in Victoria and NSW.
Competition general manager Dale Norman said he was hoping to have football and netball start on Good Friday, April 2.
That date would see Echuca United and Moama face off in their traditional Three Jacks clash while other games could also potentially be fixtured.
“The floating fixture is something that could give us flexibility later in the year if we needed it,” Norman said.
“If there was the need to have a couple of weeks off, it’s something we could potentially look at doing.
“But the situation is always changing, and we will keep our clubs updated with any information we do receive.”
The competition has teams located in both NSW and Victoria, but Norman said there were no plans to spilt into two state conferences if the border was to close again.
“You just need to look at the teams in Echuca-Moama and Cobram-Barooga, it would be too hard for those clubs to operate their best,” he said.
“With players living on both sides of the borders it could mean teams wouldn’t have access to their players depending on the restrictions.”
Just how many people could possibly attend games is still to be decided with restrictions again different between the two states.
“We’re hopeful we will be able to have some sort of crowd,” Norman said.
“As we saw earlier this year many of our clubs didn’t want to play without their supporters because it just isn’t financially viable for them.
“We’re looking at possibly introducing QR codes which some venues have done across the country.
“It would be a good way for us to keep track of who is coming in and out of the venues.
“What clubs do in terms of functions might be something we have to look at closer to the start of the season.
“I think we’re going to see people getting creative with their ideas to keep the risk as low as possible.”
Clubs across the region are expected to start pre-season training in the coming weeks.
And Norman said there had been plenty of excitement.
“Everyone is looking forward to getting out there with their mates after a difficult year,” he said.
“All clubs are across all the rules and hopefully we can continue moving forward towards the new normal.”
Katandra and Tungamah will not feature in the competition next year having returned to the Picola District Football Netball League.
