Joy Lorraine Allan has lived in the area for more than 40 years, living in Moama for the past six years.
She has been involved in the community through working and volunteering, and would look to contribute to council on behalf of residents.
For her, keeping rate rises low while providing quality services and a balanced budget is a priority.
Similarly, rural health is an important issue to Mrs Allan, drawing on her work to secure funding for refurbishment of the Deniliquin Hospital emergency department.
“I’ve championed rural health for 15 years ... as a local councillor I (would) support advocacy through all levels of government for services to our community,” she said.
Mrs Allan is also passionate about the potential of the region, including sport, education, tourism, environmental and arts offerings.
She would aim to speak on behalf of all residents, making decisions that benefit the whole council area.
Mrs Allan has experience as a member of the Echuca Moama Wedding and Events Committee, volunteering with the Deni Ute Muster, Deniliquin VRA Rescue and as president and secretary of various community groups.
She has also been a marriage celebrant for 15 years, and has participated and fundraised for the Red Cross Murray River Marathon.
One of the aspects that she loves the most about Murray River Council is its ability to cater for all age groups, from schools, childcare and sporting facilities to aged care facilities and clubs.
Mrs Allan also enjoys the Moama Botanic Gardens, weather, restaurants and wineries and is excited by the future Meninya St development and art precinct.
“We need a strong, dynamic council to nurture and progress these wonderful assets, and to remain the best place in the world to live,” she said.
