Kylie Berryman, of Moama, has lived in Murray River Council area for 20 years and is running in the Greater Murray ward.
She is passionate about the community and would look to advocate on its behalf. Ms Berryman has followed council over the last four years, looking to communicate information on major issues to ratepayers.
One of her priorities is ensuring financial stability, focusing on essential services and a ‘back to basics’ approach to keep rates from increasing and causing a burden on residents.
She would also like to invest more into keeping young people in the area through greater opportunities and support for their futures, as well as stand up for the voices of the community.
“Prioritising these fundamental issues will help restore trust and strengthen our community for the long term,” she said.
Ms Berryman is confident that her experience as a farmer and disability care worker has informed her knowledge of rural community challenges.
In her farming background, she feels she has insight into the economic pressures, environmental factors and value of sustainability that come into agricultural life.
She feels proud and connected to the land through this farming history.
Through her disability care background, she believes her understanding of accessibility, healthcare and support needs is strong.
“These experiences have equipped me with a well-rounded perspective on our diverse needs,” she said.
Ms Berryman enjoys the diversity of the region and the community care she feels, from actions like greeting others on the street and lending a hand.
She has particularly felt this in times of need, where she has seen residents come together to help one another.
“When someone is in need, folks come out of the woodwork to help, like a great big family and when adversity strikes, we all stand together,” she said.
