Car lovers are invited to come along to the ‘Show and Shine’ event at Murray Esplanade on Sunday, May 28, from 10am.
It is an opportunity for locals to see rare vehicles, ask the owners questions and take photos, with the event raising funds for the Echuca Village Fire Brigade.
Prospective member Darren Smolenaars is a passionate owner of the rare 1968 Mustang, the model of car famour for featuring in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt.
“This is one of the events the Mustang Owners Club of Australia has put on where they’ll drive up from Melbourne, and this year they chose to visit Echuca,” Mr Smolenaars said.
The event’s main focus is an opportunity for club members to drive from Melbourne and visit Echuca-Moama.
Some of the visiting vehicles are also expected to stop by Rochester when they head home to Melbourne.
“As I grew up in Rochester, the town is very dear to me and I hope the members will stop by and support the local businesses on their return back to Melbourne,” Mr Smolenaars said.
He also owns a 2018 Mustang which honours the 50th anniversary of the first 1968 Mustang.
The vehicles form part of the Mustang Owners Club of Australia’s (MOCA) Victorian chapter, with some of the highly collectable vehicles dating all the way back to 1965.
Echuca resident Kevin Long’s white 1965 Mustang convertible GT will be another vehicle on show.
“The Echuca Village Fire Brigade will be there on Sunday morning with their red truck on display and their red hat for gold coin donations, so visitors can make a small donation to aid flood recovery efforts,” Mr Long said.
