The company said customers frustrated by slower internet speeds during peak periods, reliability issues and limits on available speed plans, would likely be able to banish them to the past, thanks to its latest achievement.
In an announcement in Shepparton on Friday, March 22, it will reveal that its fibre upgrade in Greater Shepparton is 95 per cent complete.
That means up to 23,600 homes and businesses can now connect to full fibre under a national NBN upgrade program.
And, the demand would seem to be there, with NBN figures showing a tenfold increase in average household data consumption on the NBN network over the past decade, up from 40GB per month in 2014 to more than 400GB per month in 2024, with the average Australian household now said to have 21 connected devices.
Uploading and downloading files can also be much quicker — a 200MB file may download nine times more quickly – while uploading the same file can potentially be done nearly twice as quickly.
With so much business already conducted online, the milestone is seen as further opportunity for Greater Shepparton businesses to expand their digital presence.
Business Big Ideas Festival 2024
Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with the Greater Shepparton Business Network and council’s Resilience in Recovery program, has invited locals to register their interest for the Business Big Ideas Festival 2024.
The festival, scheduled for Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 24, aims to help businesses across Greater Shepparton by providing workshops, networking opportunities and resources to inspire innovation and drive growth.
The festival has been revitalised and rebranded as the Business Big Ideas Festival.
The Victorian and Australian governments have provided funding for the event with a focus on reconnecting businesses post-COVID-19 and floods to equip them with the tools for success in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
“We are thrilled to present the Business Big Ideas Festival, providing a dynamic platform for businesses to learn, connect and grow,” Council manager economic development Anthony Nicolaci said.
More than 16 workshops will be held in 12 venues, catering to small, established and new businesses, as well as sole traders.
