The mural was painted by Tongala artist Murray Ross.
Echuca IGA owner Lance Mitchell said it took about six weeks for Mr Ross to paint the mural at home.
“It was painted on separate boards over a six-week period and then hung up for display on August 21,” he said.
“We really wanted to make our side of town stand out more, from a tourism standpoint.
“Sometimes our side of town can feel a bit separate and disconnected from the Port and that’s why we wanted to better connect our local icons whilst showing off our side of town.”
Mr Mitchell said the IGA team members consulted with Mr Ross about what they wanted the mural to look like and Mr Ross then created a number of concept designs based on that idea.
The mural was designed to showcase some of the lesser photographed paddlesteamers; the Alexander Arbuthnot and the Pevensey.
“We wanted the mural to be different,” Mr Mitchell said.
One of the more quirky elements of the piece is that there are a number of outdoor toilets hidden within the mural, which is the artist’s signature motif.
Mr Mitchell is already looking at having the mural expanded and made bigger.
The mural can be found on the front exterior wall of the grocery store.
