The policy, which Moira Shire Council said will strengthen the region’s volunteer network to ensure volunteers are well-supported in their roles, was adopted at a general meeting of administrators on Wednesday, October 23.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the council is looking forward to continuing its work with the volunteer community to build a vibrant and engaged Moira Shire.
“We encourage residents to explore the opportunities available and to consider volunteering in future community projects,” Dr Emonson said.
“The new volunteering policy sets clear guidelines for providing volunteer support, while upholding the principles of fairness, safety, and respect.
“It outlines responsibilities for both Council and volunteers, ensuring mutual benefit and a positive experience for everyone involved.
“Council looks forward to continuing its work with the volunteer community to build a vibrant and engaged Moira Shire.”
Community consultation for the draft policy was conducted from August 5 to August 26 this year.
