This comes as data from Life Saving Victoria showed a 10 per cent increase in drowning for over 65s in the past three years compared to the average over a decade.
Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre’s general manager of development Paul McKenzie said there were many benefits for older generations to get involved in aqua aerobics.
“There are many physical benefits which include increased cardiovascular health, strength, range of movement in joints, balance and improved condition, all with no impact,” Mr McKenzie said.
“Our aqua classes enable older people to continue the physical, social and mental benefits of swimming. It is never too late to learn, with adult swimming lessons becoming increasingly popular.”
Aqua classes are relaxing and fun, with a lot of laughs, all while exercising.
It is a calm, happy and friendly environment that allows people with all abilities to participate.
Mr McKenzie also discussed the great social benefits that members gain from participating regularly.
“Our members enjoy a great social environment that encourages connection with others, contributing to improved mental health,” he said.
“Many come early and leave late to make the most of the social time, with strong friendships being formed.
“The pool is a lovely 29 degrees all year round, creating a place that is comfortable for all people.”
