The Tocumwal Rural Fire Service was called to a property on Mulwala-Barooga Rd, Barooga, about 2pm.
The blaze started from a planned burn off involving grass clippings, but got out of control quickly.
The supervising landholder called fire authorities immediately.
Tocumwal called in assistance form the Barooga and Mt Gwynne RFS brigades, and the firefighters finally got the fire under control and left the property about 4pm.
Firefighters say that due to the “dry season” and pending Bush Fire Danger Periods, it is critical to register your burns.
Before you light a fire, go to www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify to learn about your responsibilities and to register.
Landholders must also notify their neighbours of any plans to burn.
