A motorcycle rider is lucky to be alive after colliding with a truck on the Hume Fwy on Saturday.
A man riding a Harley Davidson merged into the path of the truck on the freeway from Northwood Rd at 6.30am and was struck from behind.
The motorbike became wedged under the truck and pushed the rider a few hundred metres before the truck stopped.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital with serious pelvic and leg injuries and will receive penalty notices for failing to merge when safe.
The truck driver was uninjured.
House damaged by fire
A Tarcombe Rd house was extensively damaged by fire last week.
Seymour and Hilldene Fire Brigade units were called to the house at 11.30pm on June 25 after occupants noticed a glow in the roof through a rangehood and attempted to extinguish the blaze.
The occupants were unable to contain the fire and called emergency services and evacuated. The roof of the property collapsed and the rest of the house suffered significant damage.
District 12 duty officer Brian Wright said the cause of the fire was undetermined but was not being treated as suspicious.
‘‘Insulation in the property was smouldering and crews returned the next day to check it was fully extinguished,’’ he said.
