Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett said he had spoken with Victoria Police and had a strong suspect.
"It's just a matter of confirming his identity," he said.
Insp. Huggett is urging witnesses and those with information to come forward.
"There are people out there who have not come forward to provide evidence or information which is really frustrating police and efforts to give him up," he said.
"We get the crime the community condones."
EARLIER: A MAN who threatened staff with what is believed to be a knife at a Moama bottleshop this afternoon before robbing the store is on the run.
Police have outstanding CCTV and are confident they will have their man sooner rather than later.
Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett said when the man entered BWS, at Moama Marketplace, about 4.40pm, staff recognised him as someone who had stole $190 worth of alcohol on Saturday.
‘‘Staff have approached him and he’s made a number of utterances and then we understand he’s produced a bladed weapon,’’ he said.
‘‘He made more utterances to staff and they backed off and he’s taken off with about $200 worth of alcohol.’’
The man is described as Caucasian, thin build, aged 18-20, wearing a black baseball cap, white Dickies shirt, dark shorts and black and white Nike sneakers, with a tattoo on his right arm.
Anyone who has seen him or has any information can contact police on 5482 0099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
