Acting Sergeant Kris Sutton of Campaspe Highway Patrol said about 6.40am, a dark blue Holden Commodore sedan, with false plates, was driving north along the Northern Hwy when it collided with a light truck travelling in the same direction on the shoulder of the road between Weir and Clarkes roads.
“The light truck, which had two male occupants aged in their 40s, at the time were setting up signage for roadworks at this location,” he said.
“The impact between the two vehicles has caused the sedan to roll and flip onto its roof and entrap one of the occupants for a short time.”
AS Sutton said the occupants - a man and woman believed to be aged in their 30-40s – fled the scene shortly after.
They were last seen getting into a small blue sedan which was following a short distance behind the vehicle when the collision occurred, AS Sutton said.
However, he said he found the pair – an Echuca woman and a Bendigo man - walking along the highway, not far from the collision, about 1pm.
“Both were suffering minor injuries,” he said.
“They have been taken to Bendigo hospital for checks and observation and at the conclusion of that, police will request their assistance in relation to the collision.”
The two men in the light truck were also taken by ambulance to Bendigo hospital for observation.
Ambulance Victoria, CFA, rescue services and Victoria Police all attended the crash.
Anyone who has information, witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is urged to contact Constable De Cicco of Campaspe Highway Patrol on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
