A NSW Police station sign has been refurbished and mounted for the Murray River Police District.
It will take pride of place in the growing collection of police memorabilia housed at the Deniliquin Police Station.
The project was taken to the Men’s Shed by Murray River Police District Detective Chief Inspector Jy Brown, who has curated most of the exhibition.
Coming to his aid was Men’s Shed member John Russell.
Det Chief Insp Brown said the sign has plenty of history behind it, originally affixed to the Balranald Police Station.
Sitting unused since being removed from the station’s exterior, Det Chief Insp Brown saw it as a potentially eye-catching and historic addition to the Murray River Police District museum collection.
It took Mr Russell and his fellow Deni Men’s Shed members a week to give the sign new life.
It has been mounted on beautiful recycled timber, using a thicknesser and sander to give the frame a smooth finish with its square edges.
It was delivered back to Deniliquin Police Station last week.
Det Chief Insp Brown said the next step will be to add a light behind the sign, which will then be added to the display.
It is expected to be mounted above the next lot of museum glass cabinets to be fitted in the museum space, upstairs in the station.
Other items in the exhibitions include uniforms, badges, police documents, magazines, photographs and more.
