But the phenomenon is not exclusive to only Echuca-Moama, with community members around Australia noticing the decline.
The on-street post boxes have long been relied on as an easier option for those who may struggle to get to a post office.
In Echuca there are currently only eight street post boxes, with the majority located in the centre of Echuca.
In Moama, there is only one situated on Meninya St.
According to a representative from Australia Post, the post boxes are being removed for a variety of reasons.
“As we continue to see mail decline, we remove some street posting boxes that are not frequently used, subject to vandalism or in areas where we have significant overlap,” they said.
“Australia Post regularly reviews the location of its street posting boxes to ensure it can run an efficient postal network and has over 14,000 street posting boxes nationally, which is well above the 10,000 required under the regulations.”
Although there has been a noticeable decline in street posting boxes, community members can request for one to be installed by calling 13 POST (13 76 78).
However the requested box must meet a specific criteria regarding accessibility, traffic restrictions, population density, community needs and mail volume.
