Their three-day jaunt through Victoria’s High Country started in Bright on Friday, March 26, and took them through Mt Beauty, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buffalo.
Event co-ordinator Dick Phillips said he was pleased with the event and how everyone embraced the fundraising aspect.
“The business people in Echuca-Moama and Bendigo were the primary areas where the money came from and also from their suppliers,” he said.
“Without the support of local riders and businesses, we'd have a fun day but we wouldn't be raising much money.”
Despite inclement weather during the trip, the riders all got through without any major mishaps — although Paul Loescel took out the ‘NAPA’ award as the only one to come off his bike.
“It was at a very low speed and there was no damage to the bike; I think he had a grazed knee that maybe needed a Band-Aid,” Dick said.
“That was the only skin off throughout the whole event and given the atrocious conditions on the Saturday over Falls Creek — where it was really difficult to see more than a cricket pitch in front of you and it was pouring rain too — fortunately people rode to their abilities and got through unscathed.
“The Enterprise Award goes to the person or people who raise the most money and that went to the team from Echuca CIH who raised over $14,000 between the three of them — a sensational effort.”
The ‘Hero’ award went to Jaryd Stevenson and Paul Loescel, awarded “for people who enter the event with a intent of having fun but also taking the fundraising pretty seriously as well”.
The money will go towards supporting ERH's cancer services — an area the Horizon Committee has shown considerable support to and something ERH chief executive Nick Bush said he was very appreciative of.
“Thank you to the Horizon Committee for their tremendous donation and ongoing support of the health service over many years,” he said.
The committee's fundraising through events including the Postie Bike Adventure and Biggest Ever Bloke's Lunch, have over the years funded a specialist prostate cancer nurse at ERH and oncology chairs for patients receiving treatment.
Medical day treatment nurse unit manager Lyn Jeffreson also thanked the committee members for their contribution.
“It's been a long-standing association with the Horizon Committee and Echuca Regional Health, particularly in their support for cancer services,” she said.
Already, the committee has turned its attention to 2022 with its sights set on a Postie Bike Adventure at Halls Gap.
