Postie bikes to deliver vital funds

Fifty riders will take their 110cc’s of fury on a four-day ride across north-west Tasmania to raise funds for vital cancer support services.

The funds raised for the Great Postie Bike Adventure will be split between Echuca Regional Health and Launceston Northern WP Holman Clinic Trust.

While the majority of this year’s participants come from the Campaspe and Murray River Council region, there is at least one participant from every state in Australia.

Event co-ordinator Dick Phillips said it would be the first time the group had been to Tasmania since the fundraiser’s inception in 2017.

Previous events have been held in Bright, Echuca-Moama and Halls Gap.

“We’ll be spending two nights on the boat to get over there and back and we’ll also be staying in a town called Tullah and in Smithton at a hotel called Tall Timbers,” Mr Phillips said.

Ten support crew members across five vehicles will be closely following behind the riders to ensure there are no hiccups.

Event organiser Horizon Committee Inc, is a registered charity based in Echuca and has been involved in fundraising for cancer support services since 2004.

Since then, the committee has donated more than $2,400,000 through fundraising events such as The Murray Charity Meander, Echuca-Moama’s Biggest Blokes Lunch, Little Blue Towels Project and The Great Postie Bike Adventure.

Mr Phillips said last year’s Great Postie Bike Adventure raised $100,000 for the ERH Cancer and Wellness Centre.
