Reconciliation Week an important time to learn

The Moira Shire Council Administrator John Tanner AM has highlighted council’s commitment to commemorating National Sorry Day and the promotion of National Reconciliation Week.

Mr Tanner said both occasions provided an important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements.

“We should all explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia,” he said.

“Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all other people in our community for the benefit of all Australians.”

He said over the past 50 years many significant steps towards reconciliation had been taken.

“These should continue to ensure there was an equitable and reconciled Australia,” he added.

National Sorry Day (26 May) is commemorated national to remember and honour the Stolen Generations.

National Reconciliation Week (26 May to 3 June) provides a focus for working towards an equitable and reconciled Australia.
