The Red Knights is a registered non-profit organisation made up of former firefighters, active firefighters and their families who are heavily involved in their local communities.
The club’s Chapter 14 president Colin Consiglio said they hoped to help families still struggling after the 2022 floods.
“Our intention is to raise money for the community for those who were done hard by the floods and to give kids something to give them a bit of spark,” he said.
“There are 104 homes that people aren’t living in now and they want to come back but they can’t, so we’d like to help that community out.”
Boxes will be set out this weekend at different locations throughout Echuca, Rochy, Rushworth and Tongala for community members to drop toys off to.
Direct donations can also be made to the Rochester Salvation Army, which will be in charge of distributing the toys.
Due to health reasons, all toys that are donated to the cause must be brand new or they cannot be accepted.
Fellow club member Hoss Hamilton said once all the toys were collected, parents would be able to go down to the Rochy Salvos and take their pick.
“Any toys we get will go off to the Salvos in Rochy, they’ve got a room set up as a Christmas room for parents to come down and they can pick what they like,” he said.
“We welcome any toys from a fishing rod through to a doll to give the kids a range. The kids are all different ages, so we will try to cater to everything in between.”
The club is actively gathering sponsors for the event in the coming weeks with a few already involved, including Echuca Workers Club, Kyabram Club, Moama Bowling Club, Auto Barn and Star Hotel.
On Saturday, November 30, the motorcycle club will set out from Echuca to collect all the toy boxes and will regroup at the Rochester Hotel.
The location of the donation boxes will be announced at a later date.
