Council is seeking expressions of interest for the Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (AIAC) which will provide it feedback, advice and guidance on ways to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
Mayor Frank Crawley said the council is looking for a diverse range of representatives from right across the council area.
“We’re looking for local people with lived experience of disability to advise council on how we can improve access to, and inclusion in council’s services, facilities and programs,” Cr Crawley said.
“This might be people living with a disability, carers or those who work in the disability sector.
“Once established, we’ll look to the committee to help us develop and implement policies, procedures, planning and programming to increase community inclusion outcomes.”
The key responsibilities of committee members will include advising on the implementation of the council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), recommending ways to enhance accessibility in council-owned buildings and infrastructure, and providing insights on how services, public programs and events can become more inclusive.
The committee will also play a vital role in advising on the accessibility of the council's communication activities, such as publications, websites and social media.
“The Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee is a great way for people to represent the needs of the Murray River Council community,” Cr Crawley said.
Residents interested in being part of the committee are invited to submit an EOI to the council by March 15.
