It’s as simple as that.
Pam has been running since she was young and in high school, she won the cross-country year after year.
She represented Rochester High at events in Bendigo and Echuca – while she passed up the opportunity to compete in Melbourne.
After high school Pam went to university in Bendigo for a year and then continued her Bachelor of Business in Tourism and Hospitality at William Angliss in Melbourne.
She worked in Melbourne for two years but was homesick for the country so returned to Bendigo.
She switched to legal assistant work before moving to Kyabram a couple of years later and worked at Dawes & Vary for 10 years until she went on maternity leave.
Pam and husband Adam now have two daughters, Ava, 7, and Maya, 5.
They live on a hobby farm in Tongala and Pam loves being a mum and the farm life.
Another love is netball.
She plays centre which requires good running skills.
Until this year, the reason Pam ran was to keep fit for netball.
However, with netball cancelled she’s now running for herself and early this year set a goal to run a half-marathon.
She would have loved to accomplish this at a major event to enjoy the carnival atmosphere, but with this not possible, Pam decided she would run it virtually.
Pam is now running four days a week, more than she has run before.
She runs on the treadmill in the lounge room, some days up to 15 km.
She runs while the girls eat brekky and together, they watch the morning cartoons.
On the weekend Pam meets her friend Jen, for an outdoor run.
She counts this as her outing for the week, and if Adam has to work, she’ll head out the door at 6 am.
At the end of July, Jen contacted Pam to invite her to run a half-marathon with her and a friend the next day.
Without too much thought she agreed and completed her first 21.1 km in 1:50.
Pam’s next goal is a marathon in 2021.
She’s learnt from past experience that the best way to achieve this will be to increase the distance slowly.
Although this year hasn’t been easy for many, there’s been positives for Pam.
As a stay-at-home mum she’s cherished more time with her girls and loved home-schooling Ava.
The other bonus is more time for running.
