The stage four works will include reconfiguration of the signalised Welsford St and Fryers St intersection, with an additional right turning lane from Welsford St towards the causeway.
The project also involves works to reconfigure the Fryers St and Marungi St T-intersection so that Marungi St is left turn in and left turn out only.
Pavement upgrades, traffic signals and surrounding landscaping will also be upgraded, with the aim to improve traffic flow and safety along Welsford St.
The Welsford and Fryers streets intersection will be closed, as will a stretch of Welsford St and of Fryers St.
Council said businesses along Welsford St would still have access to their properties during the works, and pedestrian access would be maintained; however, there would be some temporary changes as works progressed.
Council director of infrastructure Gary Randhawa said the works were expected to be completed in early March 2023.
“Council is excited to see these works get under way to transform the section of Welsford St to improve traffic flow and safety of the road for motorists and pedestrians,” Mr Randhawa said.
“While there will be some disruptions in the area during the works, council will be communicating with everyone impacted to ensure they are well aware of the changes.”
Council has created a webpage to provide updates on the Welsford St redevelopment. Residents can also sign up for email updates by “subscribing to updates” on the right side of the webpage at greatershepparton.com.au/welsford-street-redevelopment
