The annual Mathoura Speed Shear and Cancer fundraiser is set to return in 2024, raising money for the Mathoura Bra Fence to support locals undergoing cancer treatment.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Mathoura Recreation Reserve on Morris St, Mathoura.
Mathoura Speed Shear organiser Anna Robinson said it is a community event that has shearers turn up and enter a shearing competition.
The event features four categories: open, seniors, intermediate, and women.
“The prize money is not yet sorted, but the prize money has increased in the open events,” Ms Robinson said.
The competition will also include a Trans-Tasman battle between Australian and New Zealand shearers.
The rules of speed shearing are simple: the shearer that shears a sheep in the fast time wins.
In 2023, the Mathoura Speed Shear winner, Jamie Pakai completed the task in 24.37 seconds.
The 2023 event saw an overwhelming turnout.

“In 2023, we had so many shearers that we started to run out of sheep,” Ms Robinson said.
“'We had an amazing turnout last year.
“It was an awesome crowd, most likely the largest we have ever had.”
The event promises entertainment for all ages, with activities for children and food and drink available. Registration begins at 9.30am, with shearing commencing at noon.
Ms Robinson expressed gratitude to the organising committee and participating shearers.
“I’d like to thank the committee that helped put the day on, along with all the shearers that turned up to support the community.”
