Mrs Taufa gave birth at the back door of her Lemnos home, under the pergolas, at 4.47am on Thursday, February 28.
She had gone to the hospital the day before due to sickness and said she felt it was time to give birth, but was sent home and told it was not time yet.
The next day, Mrs Taufa and her family were getting ready to go back to the hospital, but it was too late.
By the time they stepped foot out the back door, she felt the baby’s head.
It was time, whether she wanted it to be or not.
Her aunt, Lovenier Finau, helped her to the ground of her porch.
“During the birth, the ambulance was still on their way, but I had already dialled 000, and they guided me through every step of the way,” Miss Finau said
“She was ready to push. I had no choice but to deliver the baby on our backyard porch.
“As soon as the baby arrived, she started crying.
“My dad and sister rushed out with blankets to keep my niece and her newborn nice and warm until the ambulance arrived.”
Following the birth of her baby girl, Nina Rose Ebejer, Mrs Taufa was taken to the hospital for care.
Despite the unexpected birth, Miss Finau said Mrs Taufa is well, and Nina is “gaining a lot of strength” and is “very healthy”.
