Skillzone has been offering sports programs for children in the region for over a decade, with founder and owner Adam Gatcum and his team of coaches helping develop kid’s skills in multiple different sports.
"Skillzone is a multi-sports based coaching company,” Mr Gatcum said.
“We are based in Cobram, but we service many surrounding towns as well, and we predominantly run a variety of sports programs for children.”
There is something for everyone at Skillzone, with a wide range of ages, abilities, and sports accommodated for.
The soccer development centre is an elite coaching program for primary school aged kids, designed to nurture the talents of the participants, with four blocks of six weeks throughout each school term helping athletes succeed on and off the pitch.
The ‘mini kickers’ program helps introduce kindergarten and prep aged children to soccer and develop a love for the sport, with fun and engaging sessions tailored to individual needs to ensure everyone feels confident on the field.
“There are lots of benefits (for the children),” Mr Gatcum said.
“We've obviously got a team of skilled coaches that deliver these programs, and the programs are based on being inclusive and engaging for the kids.
“Hopefully, they can develop their skill sets as well with the guidance of our team.”
Alongside the soccer programs are the introductory basketball program ‘Junior Ballers’, the ‘Mini Stars’ gross motor program for children aged two-and-a-half to five years old, which serves as an introduction to movement and sport, and also school holiday programs.
While the programs are predominantly designed for primary school aged children, Skillzone does run an over-35s social basketball night, as well as the all-ability sport program for children and teenagers with a disability.
“Our programs are there to offer opportunities for kids and people to engage in an active lifestyle,” Mr Gatcum said.
“We try and have a wide range of activities and programming to cater for the whole community, so there's something for everybody.”
