In what is believed to be first kite festival to be held in Yarrawonga or Mulwala, the idea originated when Mulwala Public School’s P&C Committee was looking for a fundraiser that was something a little different from the usual food sale fundraisers.
“One of the committee members put forward kites as a suggestion and the idea grew from there,” explained committee member Beth Robinson.
“The Easter Market hasn’t been able to run for a couple of years due to covid so we decided to combine the two to make the ‘Mulwala Kite Fest’.
Some kite enthusiasts from Wallan and Shepparton will display their kites which are much bigger and more intricate than the regular kites you normally see.
Mulwala Public School will be selling a variety of kites on the day. “There will be simple diamond and delta shapes plus more complex butterflies and dragon kites. We will also have double stringed kites for people aged ten and above,” Beth said.
“We would love to see lots of people come down and fly their kites on the day.”
There will also be a market on the day, with jumping castle, many stalls plus a host of local food, live music, trucks including Max’s Ultimate BBQ, Mini Melts Icecream, Veg Out Spring Rolls, Twisted Potatoes and Donuts, Brew It Coffee and Oh My Ceylon.
“As this is the first festival of its kind in our area and something a little bit different, we would love to see lots of locals there and hopefully build on it as a regular event for years to come,” Beth said.
“Hopefully it can inspire people to get outdoors, make fun memories and enjoy our beautiful surroundings.”
There will be a gold coin donation on entry. For more information, call Beth Robinson 0439 393 610.
