Sniffer dogs were used by NSW Police Force in an operation targeting licensed venues in Moama and Deniliquin over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
On Saturday night, police officers and the dog unit attended several licensed premises in Moama and Deniliquin.
Five people were detected carrying a white powder substance, which was seized by police to be analysed.
Any charges will depend on the result of the analysis.
Across regional NSW, more than 100 licensing breaches were detected during inspections at more than 1000 licensed venues as part of a high-visibility operation targeting alcohol-related crime and COVID-Safety compliance over the long weekend.
In the southern region, 18 arrests were made, 24 charges were laid for offences including assault, resisting arrest and driving under the influence, and 634 random breath tests were conducted.
