Greater Shepparton City Council has tempered expectations for a decision on the proposal to sell airspace above the Maude, Nixon and Edward streets car park.
Council is considering a request by social housing providers Beyond Housing and Wintringham to build a multi-storey complex above the car park.
According to Mayor Kim O’Keeffe, it is most likely to be addressed at a council meeting in June at the earliest.
“Council are addressing this as a priority to get to a future council meeting,” she said.
Council officers are reviewing the 750 submissions, 38 verbal presentations and all material provided during a two-day briefing to council and will prepare two reports.
One report will make a recommendation to council while the other will outline the consultation process, contents of submissions and council officers’ responses to concerns raised.
Council will then consider these reports and all the feedback received from the community at a council meeting.
As well as reviewing all of the submissions, council officers have commissioned additional technical expert reports to analyse and respond to some of the matters raised by submitters.
Cr O’Keeffe thanked each of the residents, business owners and community members who presented a verbal presentation to council.
A video recording of the verbal submissions is available on YouTube and council’s website at shaping.greatershepparton.com.au/edward-st-affordable-housing
Some of the submitters may be contacted by council officers to clarify concerns they have raised.
