The ENH Food Bank program was presented with a cheque for $1218.50 from the Order of the Eastern Star Victoria.
As Order of the Eastern Star’s worthy matron of Brighton Coronation chapter Sandra Walker explained, this donation was the second for the year to ENH.
“We donated $3000 earlier in the year for the flood appeal and this latest fundraising effort followed on from that,” she said.
“I started this appeal with $300 from the charity fund and this grand total of $1218.50 was raised by four Order of the Eastern Star chapters in Brighton Coronation, Williamstown, Nepean and Box Hill.”
Order of the Eastern Star has a proud history of supporting local communities throughout Australia.
It was founded in the mid-1800s by Dr Robert Morris and has grown to include chapters in every state of Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.
Ms Walker was on hand to formally present the cheque on Tuesday to ENH secretary Ev Holzer, who said donations such as this provided a real boost to the Food Bank service.
“We are so warmly appreciative to the Order of the Eastern Star for this donation,” Ms Holzer said.
“As we saw during the flood crisis, the community is very generous when times are tough.
“The demand for the Food Bank has increased since the floods and of course during what are challenging economic times for some people.”
The ENH Food Bank partners with Food Bank Victoria, Second Bite, Woolworths Food Diversion and other local businesses.
“Our food relief boxes feature basic staples such as fruit and vegetables,” Ms Holzer said.
“They are available for pick-up from Monday to Thursday.
“If you are in need, you can call us on 5482 6914 or visit us at 261 High St, Echuca.”
