Both of the captains had been recommended by teachers to go for the coveted position.
The process started last year when they needed to write a letter to then-principal Jay Sutton, and make a speech at assembly about why they each would make great captains.
Fast-forward a couple of months, wearing the new hats and oozing an air of leadership, the pair share a common focus for the year.
They want to create a stronger sense of community between the college population.
“I think a big thing for us was on everyone being together ... and we really want to bring (all year levels) together to be one,” Tia said.
“We want to create a bit more of a connection between the younger year levels and the older ones so they can see us as role models and people to look up to,” Jett said.
Tia said she wanted to become a leader because she wanted to challenge herself for her final year of school.
“I really enjoy helping people and I wanted to do that in a bigger and broader position,” she said.
Jett, who has been at the school since Prep, wanted to make an impact on the school at which he has been raised.
“I was encouraged a little bit to have a go, and I wanted to try something new,” he said.
“I wanted to make a legacy at this school because I’ve been here for so long.”
Both captains are looking forward to ambitious careers in life after school.
Tia aspires to experience life from a teacher’s perspective and plans to study education, while Jett is drawn to the coast and aims to pursue marine biology.
For the moment, though, the duo are savouring every challenge and memorable experience that their final year of school has to offer.
“(I’m looking forward) to all of the activities that bond the Year 12 group together, like the retreat and sports days,” Tia said.
“Yeah, the ones that help gather everyone together more as a community,” Jett said.
