Well, you may not be able to own an actual gold medal, but Australia Post is creating the next best thing.
Every time an Australian athlete wins gold at this year’s Olympics, Australia Post will create a stamp immediately after, with the official Olympic medal ceremony image featured on each unique stamp in celebration.
A sheet of ten stamps will be available within 48 hours of the medal ceremony for pre-orders online via the Australia Post website and within one week at Australia post office outlets.
Australia Post executive general manager of retail Josh Bannister said the stamp program is a historic way to honour our gold medal winners.
“Whether it be in the pool, track, court side, on the pitch or in the ring, Aussies can throw their support behind their favourite gold medallists and take home a piece of history with a stamp or coin, sharing the love and excitement for the Paris Olympics,” he said.
Australian Olympics Committee CEO Matt Carroll says the limited-edition collectables are a timeless reminder of this Australian Team.
“Australians are rightly proud of their Olympic Teams, which are drawn from towns and communities from across the country, and we are very grateful to Australia Post for celebrating them in this way,” he said.
With the Games officially starting on Friday, July 26, sporting fans and collectors can mark the momentous occasion by taking home some gold of their own.
This includes the official Royal Australian Mint (RAM) 2024 Australian Olympic Team coloured $2 three-coin collection, and the individual 2024 Paralympics Team coloured $2 coin folder, both part of Australia Post’s “Paris 2024 Olympic Games” collection.
The official RAM 2024 Olympic and Paralympic team coin collections are available online and in participating Post Offices from today.
