The event, ‘Unveiling Hidden Wardrobe Gems’, will give parishioners and the public the chance to see outfits from yesteryear.
“The idea for the show came from looking at the back of the wardrobe and seeing what we’ve got in the way of good clothes that people haven’t looked at for a long time,” St Mary’s parishioner and organiser Margaret Hart said.
“We will be highlighting the ’60s through to the ’90s.”
Ms Hart said the garments had emerged from various sources.
“Many of them have come from brides, mothers of the bride or 21st birthday events,” she said.
“The majority of the gowns have come from the general public or church and people we have been involved with.”
Ms Hart teased some high fashion mixed with wedding gowns and other formal wear.
“We’ve got a couple of designer dresses from Versace and Chanel, so that’s exciting,” she said.
Yet, Ms Hart emphasised the importance of variety in the show, demonstrating the best of what the late 20th century had to offer.
“We wanted a mix of clothes as well. Not everything had to be top-class fashion, but something people have looked after,” she said.
Not only did organisers want a range of outfits to show, but it was also important to have variety in who would be wearing them.
“We’ve got a lot of diversity with the models,” Ms Hart said.
“We have older and younger people and individuals from different ethnicities to represent our multicultural community.”
Ultimately, Ms Hart and the rest of the parish hope the event brings people together and that all the guests have a good night.
“It’ll be a happy event showing top-class fashion and having some lovely food and a nice glass of celebratory drinks,” she said.
