The school recently received an injection of funds to further its commitment to sun safety and provide sun-safe areas for students to play and learn.
Installation of the shade sails over the school's newly extended sandpit and recently upgraded playground as well as the school amphitheatre now offer students many shaded outdoor areas to access while being protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
“Following consultation with the school’s P and C committee, this project was selected with student safety and well being in mind,” principal Janice Eddy said.
The shade sail installation was funded by a successful grant application from Member for Farrer Sussan Ley via the Local Schools Community Fund.
More than $13,000 was received enabling the school’s Sun Safe Shade Sail Installation to occur.
“The benefits of this addition are already being seen throughout the school,” Ms Eddy said.
“Students now share recess and lunch eating times together in the school amphitheatre, the playground is now accessible all year round with students safely playing under the shade even on the particularly warm first few days of the 2020 school year, and outdoor learning has also been allowed to take place.”
The school has taken part in the NSW Government's initiative called ‘Share Our Space’ where the school grounds are open during the school holidays for the whole community to enjoy the use of the school’s playground, oval and sporting fields.
“The whole school community are extremely grateful to Sussan Ley for seeing the value in this project and her support of our school via the Local Schools Community Fund,” ms Eddy said.
The school was also fortunate to employ the services of a local business - Echuca Moama Shade Sails - to oversee the installation.
“It is an incredibly valuable project that will continue to demonstrate benefit for many years,” Ms Eddy said.
