The use of opera house yabby traps is now illegal in NSW, and a new project is now running to ensure they are disposed of correctly.

As part of the Yabby Trap Round-up program, there will be a collection point at the Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge next weekend.
You can swap your old traps for an Oar-Gee Plow Lure with the guys from OzFish Unlimited.
Even if haven’t entered for the comp, you can still head down to Memorial Park on February 16 and 17 to enjoy all the fun and swap your old traps for a new lure.
What a great opportunity to recycle your opera house traps into something more useful for the future of fishing.
The program is also running in the Murray River region, with the Barham and Moama waste depots as swap sites.
If you cannot get to any of the local drop off points, go to ozfish.org.au/projects/yabby-trap-round-up and read the step-by-step process on how to send by mail.
The Yabby Trap Round-Up program is an initiative of TierraMar in collaboration with OzFish and the NSW DPI. Lures are limited to one per customer.

Back to school
As school starts to return across the region, we are reminding drivers the speed limit around school zones is 40km/h.
Children are small, harder to see, behave unpredictably and are extremely vulnerable. They need you to take extra care when driving and parking around school zones and increased fines and demerit points apply for certain school zone offences.
Most of our school zones have flashing lights as warning, but others do not.
It’s your responsibility to be driving to the conditions.
RSL goes red for a cause
There will be splashes of red all around the Deni RSL Club today as staff get behind the national Wear Red for Heart Disease initiative.
The national event is held over the month of February each year and is a fundraiser supporting heart research in Australia.
RSL patrons can get behind the cause and wear a splash of red too.
You can also make a gold coin donation if you choose to while you enjoy the club facilities.

Transgrid meetings
Three community meetings and a series of ‘drop-in’ sessions on the proposed overhead electricity transmission network through the region will be held next week.
The Transgrid project - known as the Victoria to NSW interconnector West, or VNI West for short - is proposed to include a series of large transmission line structures between Jerilderie and Swan Hill.
It will take in large parts of the Conargo, Wanganella and Moulamein areas.
Community sessions will be held in Moulamein, Deniliquin and Jerilderie between February 7 and 9.
These will be followed by 12 ‘drop in’ sessions, with two each in Moulamein, Deniliquin, Barham, Conargo, Wanganella and Jerilderie.
A full list of dates and locations can be found in the ad on page 14 of today’s edition.
Health program expansion
Children and families across the state now have access to the free virtualKIDS Urgent Care Service with a referral.
virtualKIDS uses video conferencing technology to connect families with a clinical nurse to determine the best care pathway based on each child’s needs.
This may be visiting an emergency department, a consultation with a virtualKIDS expert paediatrician, a trip to the GP, or recovering at home with guidance for the family.
There is no cost to parents or carers if their child has a Medicare card – it is just like a visit to a hospital emergency department.
Until this expansion, the Urgent Care Service was only for families within three local health districts that were home to specialist paediatric hospitals – South Eastern Sydney, Western Sydney and Hunter New England Local Health Districts.
Parents and carers should call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance or go to a hospital emergency department immediately if they have a life-threatening emergency.
