It is their third year of wearing pyjamas for National Sleep Awareness Week.
Pharmacist Clint Flanigan said, “it originally started as an idea from a pharmacist of ours who thought that we could make a real statement.”
“Really our goal has been to create a point of discussion.”
Mr Flanigan said the pyjamas “have been a great visual prompt” for getting people to start conversations about their sleeping habits.
“It’s quite effective because sometimes you can run a health promotion or a program like this and have as much signage as you like but it can still be easy for people to miss.”
“The pyjamas have been a pretty obvious trigger point for customers to join in on discussions around sleep.”
Even prior to Sleep Awareness Week, Moama Village Pharmacy has always made a point of discussing the importance of good quality sleep.
“We have quite a strong focus on sleep health and have had that focus for a long time,” Mr Flanigan said.
“We have run our own sleep services clinic for the better part of five or six years now.”
“Sleep health is so essential, across the board. There are so many links between poor sleep health and chronic health conditions.”
Mr Flanigan admits that healthy sleep habits are often overlooked.
“People tend to focus on all the other elements like their blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes but they forget to worry about sleeping.
“Sleep disturbances have a direct effect on all of those conditions as well.
“There are so many factors that could be contributing to these disturbances as well.”
Anyone who experiences restless sleep or wakes up still feeling fatigued should consult with a healthcare professional.
“If people feel like they’re not getting enough sleep, then it’s always worth touching base with a health professional to have that discussion,” Mr Flanigan said.
The team at Moama Village Pharmacy will be in their pyjamas until the end of the week.
