Whether a keen novelist, budding bard, or wandering wordsmith, all are invited to attend the group’s Creative Writing Kick-Start workshop at the Mechanics’ Institute in Shepparton on Saturday, October 19.
Covering a range of literary genres, participants will be primed to write in diverse styles, including screenplay writing, researching family history, crafting tales for children and mastering the short story.
Among the highlights is a session led by Robyn Black, the GV Regional Ambassador for Writers Victoria and co-ordinator of the Furphy Literary Award.
Ms Black, who has seen the award attract hundreds of entries vying for the $15,000 first prize, will share insights on how to stand out in short-story competitions.
Suellen Drysdale, president of the Goulburn Valley Writers’ Group and author of three children’s books, will demystify the writing process for appealing to young readers.
Meanwhile, military historian Tracee Spiby, inspired by her grandfather’s wartime letters, will guide participants in delving into their own ancestry to find compelling stories.
Melissa Black, with her Advanced Diploma of Professional Screenwriting and experience on projects such as the feature film Blue Canaries and the US series La Brea, also contributes to the mix, offering a peek into the world of screenwriting.
Brimming with talent and expertise, this workshop is poised to ignite a passionate firestorm in aspiring writers, help polish their craft and produce work ready to be unleashed.
Creative Writing Kick-Start is on Saturday, October 19, from 10am to 2pm, at the Mechanics’ Institute, 243 Wyndham St, Shepparton.
This workshop is free, thanks to the support of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Creative City Grants program.
