This gesture of goodwill follows the club’s highly anticipated annual bowls tournament, which not only brought together skilled bowlers but also served as a platform to rally support for the local health service.
The hospital’s newly appointed director of nursing, Bernadette Wardle, said she felt immense pride and gratitude towards the efforts of the Tatura Bowls Club and wider community.
“I feel very humbled and honoured to be able to be in this role,” she said.
“A big part of what I’ve learnt from my previous roles in small communities is connecting in with these service groups and sporting groups and partnering together to maintain and improve the quality of the services that we can provide for our residents and for our patients.”
Ms Wardle said the money raised would go towards funding for a new barbecue for the residents.
“We plan to purchase a decent size barbecue for the residents, patients, staff and their families so that we can have regular barbecues — because food brings people together and it will be a wonderful social experience for our residents and families,” she said.
Tatura Bowls Club administration organiser Jenny Johnson was proud of the collective efforts of the club members, bowlers and community, and said it was a testament to the amount of goodwill in Tatura.
“I am very passionate about it ... it’s just a really good thing for us to keep this hospital functional,” she said.
“We had our list of sponsors that we were aware were going to help us but as we progressed, we got more sponsors and it worked really well.
“I was so proud of the community and the team at Tatura Bowls Club, it was really good.”
