The Order of the Eastern Star has donated $3000 to the Echuca Neighbourhood House flood relief fund.
Order of the Eastern Star past worthy grand matron sister Sandra Walker, worthy grand matron sister Iris Carlin and worthy grand patron brother Ronald Aimor of the Grand Chapter of Victoria were responsible for arranging the donation.
The Brighton, Nepean, Williamstown and Box Hill chapters of the order donated.
Ms Walker said they chose this specific flood recovery fund because ENH gave 100 per cent of the donations to the people that needed it.
“We wanted the money to go straight to those who needed it and we wanted the organisation that we donated to to have a process for checking whether the people asking for money were real flood victims,” Ms Walker said.
“ENH does that.”
ENH treasurer Cheryl Russell said they were extremely grateful for the generous donation.
Ms Russell said there was no shame in seeking financial assistance.
“A lot of people won’t put their hand up for help because of pride or because they think there are others worse off than them,” Ms Russell said.
“We do have a designated staff member who can run through all of the options with the person in need.”
