Campaspe Shire Council has secured a grant towards local history preservation from the Victorian Government.
The Victorian government services minister has funded 42 local history projects, allocating $350,000 as part of the Local History Grants Program.
Campaspe Shire Council will receive about $8500 for the Port of Echuca Mixed Media Digitisation Project.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes welcomed the contribution given to council.
“Congratulations to Campaspe Shire in being awarded funding for their work to preserve Echuca history for future generations,” she said.
This year is the 22nd round of the Local History Grants Program, with projects funded including the digitisation of newspapers and photographs, archiving initiatives and recording of digital and oral histories.
“For 22 years, the Local History Grants Program has ensured the stories and collections of Victoria’s history are not forgotten. We are pleased to see $350,000 shared among such worthy projects in 2024,” Public Record Office Victoria director Justine Heazlewood said.
The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre is undergoing a $600,000 refurbishment, with funding committed in 2021 through a regional development program. These refurbishments are expected to be completed by the end of this month.
