For the past three decades, the Cobram Lions Club has operated its monthly market at Cobram’s Federation Park.
On Saturday, April 19, the club will celebrate its 30-year milestone with a special Easter Market, replete with a raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses.
“It’s a major achievement for a small club,” Cobram Lions past president Janet Austin said.
“It’s fantastic to have been able to put a market on for the local community to enjoy.
“It’s bringing people to the town, it’s bringing the town together.”
The finer details of the market may have changed since its first iteration under the Lions on Easter Saturday in 1995.
But some things, such as the market’s dedicated team of volunteers, have stayed the same.
Word of mouth and consistent advertising have helped to keep the market going over the years, and its future looks bright.
“I’d like to see it keep growing, the way it is, and progressing,” Mrs Austin said.
“When we first came across it, there was only a handle of sites. Not many people came.
“But now, the people are coming through. Tourists are popping through, it’s growing.”
The markets are a major source of revenue for the club, with funds raised put back into the community through initiatives such as the Lions International Peace Poster competition.
