The Echuca Workers and Echuca Club are among two of 88 Victorian community groups that have received grants to upgrade or install solar systems, appliances, lighting or renewable energy batteries.
Echuca Workers received $50,000 for the installation of a 99.6kW solar system that would ensure a lifetime saving of approximately 4021 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Echuca Club received $13,945 for the installation of a 25.3kW solar system that would ensure a lifetime saving of approximately 1000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
The upgrades included converting to solar electricity with battery storage, switching to more efficient LED lighting, upgrading older air-conditioning units and installing more efficient electric hot water systems.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp congratulated both the Echuca Workers and the Echuca Club.
"These upgrades will assist in slashing energy bills and will also help us to halve Victoria's emissions by 2030,“ he said.
In 2021, the Community Climate Change and Energy Action program funded more than $1.16 million for community organisations to make energy upgrades or conduct an energy audit.
This has delivered $300,000 of annual savings.
According to the Victorian Government, a total of $3 million will be invested to improve energy efficiency for community groups.
The $3 million investment is expected to cut bills by $1.2 million a year while saving over 4400 tonnes of greenhouse gases annually.
