Last week, competition officials announced the planned “ultimate bowls week” which was to be held in December had been cancelled.
Instead, the UBC will now have two “ultimate bowls weeks” in 2021 with the first event to be played from August 8 to 12.
The Deer Park Club in Melbourne will host the finals series from December 13 to 17 next year.
Moama Bowling Club miss out on holding this year’s event, which had been scheduled for December 10 and 11.
MBC's Zane Mikin-Laurie said the right decision had been made.
“With all the restrictions in place, it was always going to be hard to get any form of competition off the ground,” he said.
“The good news is we already have an agreement in place to host one of the UBC events in 2022.
“We saw how popular the event was in December last year so we're hoping it will be just as popular in future.”
UBC chief executive Mark Casey said he was pleased to have a plan in place moving forward.
“It's incredibly unfortunate to not have any UBC events in 2020 after such an incredible inaugural year, but to be able to secure suitable dates to stage two fantastic weeks of bowls is a great feeling. It gives us all something to look forward to,” he said.
“To be able to say we will be paying out $1 million in prize money across the two weeks is quite unbelievable, and something our sport can really promote.”
“Each week will include three full events, it's going to be incredible. After such a challenging time, we are looking forward to putting some smiles back on the faces of bowls lovers from across the world, but particularly those in Melbourne.”
Casey said hosting the event in the back half of 2021 would allow organisers to be flexible with their planning.
“The decision to host the first week of events in August was due to the uncertainty of when travel restrictions will begin to ease.
“As we have some many international teams and players involved with the UBC, it was important we gave ourselves as long as possible so hopefully our international friends are able to travel.”
It has also been confirmed the Bowls Premier League (BPL) which was to be held at Brisbane in November has been re-scheduled for April 2021.
This means MBC is in line to host the next BPL event in February with the Murray Steamers looking to make it back-to-back wins after taking out the tournament earlier this year.
The finals of the BPL Cup, a competition which allows local clubs to try and qualify for the national event, will also be played in February.
