However, Shepparton Share the Dignity volunteer Renae Marshall, is a one-woman band but she’s hoping that will soon change.
The women’s charity is on the hunt for more volunteers within Shepparton.
Several times a year, the charity holds month-long drives collecting sanitary items for women who are experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough.
Drives are held in March, August and December every year with collection boxes positioned outside supermarkets or Bunnings in December so people could drop into sanitary items like shampoo and body wash to be put into bags.
These products are then distributed to organisations around Shepparton to distribute them to those in need.
The role of a volunteer includes collecting items from collection points once a week and dropping them off to these partner organisations in the community.
Ms Marshall has been volunteering with the charity for three years and her role as a volunteer has become something she’s really passionate about.
“Originally I just wanted something to get involved with but now that I’ve been involved and have seen how much of a need there is out there for these products in our community, it really drives me to get people to try and donate, when the boxes are out,” she said.
“Anyone can volunteer. We get mostly females but males are more than welcome to volunteer because this is what we’re also trying to do is stop the stigma about periods.
“It’s about just trying to help people.”
If you’re interested in volunteering, visit their website and fill out a form with your expression of interest.
If you want to donate to the current drive, just drop sanitary items into the collection bin at your local Woolworths.
