Volunteers celebrated at lunch

More than $118,000 was raised during Anzac and Poppy appeals in Shepparton this year.

The final figures of the two appeals for veterans and their families was announced at the Shepparton RSL sub-branch’s Over 60s and Volunteer luncheon.

Shepparton RSL sub-branch appeals officer Bruce Davis said a total of $118,694 was raised from this year’s appeals.

All the money raised goes to help veterans and their families, with half going to the Shepparton area and the other half to Melbourne to be used throughout the state.

A further $20,000 was donated by the Copulos Foundation to this year’s Poppy Appeal, with all of this money to remain in the Shepparton area to be used here.

The foundation has also pledged a further $20,000 to next year’s Anzac Day Appeal in Shepparton.

About 160 people attended this year’s luncheon which is held to thank volunteers who have helped the sub-branch.

They included volunteers that helped in the Anzac Day and Poppy Day appeals, the Shepparton RSL sub-branch memorabilia department volunteers and those from the Goulburn Valley Veteran’s office.

Australian Defence Force veterans aged over 60 also attended the lunch held at the Shepparton RSL.

One of the highlights of the day was Brian McInneny being awarded an RSL life membership by RSL Victoria State vice-president Des Callaghan.
