Georgia Prince, Jaime Shields and Maya Roudis accepted their Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) last Thursday, supported by family and friends in the graduation ceremony.
After starting in the cleaning department, Ms Shields graduated after 11 months of study and training on the job.
“I’ve been working with the cleaning department at Wharparilla Lodge for the past five years. The organisation introduced the traineeship, and I decided to apply,” Ms Shields said.
“The staff here have been great; they support the team with different training modules, and once a week, the three of us had a weekly two-hour training session every Monday.
“An opportunity like this allows me to ensure that the residents’ health and safety is always the top priority and that they feel safe.”
She said the health sector needed extra staff, and anyone considering a rewarding career in the field should make inquiries.
That sentiment was shared by clinical support lead Vik Linke, who said having qualified staff provide residents with excellent care was important.
“We have celebrated the completion of our first group of trainees,” Mrs Linke said.
“Echuca Community for the Aged commenced this program last year, and it has been rewarding for the trainees, staff and residents.”
ECA is now taking applications for trainees who will begin at the start of next year. For more information and inquiries, email hr@echucaca.com.au or call 5480 5000.
