LOCKDOWN.

Episode IV.
A New Hope.
It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
Well, we might as well start naming them accordingly.
Because, we're back.
Every time I think this nonsense is over and I won't have to be back at my computer writing about lockdown, I need a firm slap in the face for tempting fate.
Because here we are, back in the house, back wearing masks on the rare occasion that we get to go to the supermarket.
Sitting inside for the greater good as we, once again, face up to the doom and gloom of what is happening around us.
The current COVID-19 cluster is growing at roughly five cases a day as it stands. Hopefully that slows down.
But, this time around, it seems like we were ready to fight back.
Friday and Saturday saw close to a combined 100,000 tests across the state, while many people who seemed hesitant to do so are now getting that sweet, sweet medical juice in their arms as the vaccination rates grow every day.
But I guess the challenge now becomes - what am I supposed to do this week?
Now, I'm lucky. It's the middle of baseball season and the Red Sox are flying, the Celtics and the Bruins are in the play-offs, and while Hawthorn is just god awful this year, I'm still more than excited to watch them disappoint me on a weekly basis.
But, it's definitely annoying.
I've said this before in this column - knowing why you are doing things doesn't really make it all that much easier to do.
Who didn't over the weekend want to sit down and have a beer with someone while watching the footy, or play a board game with some friends?
We all wanted to do something. No one wanted to be sitting in their house knowing they were limited to what was around them.
But this is where we are.
Again.
The biggest hope we have is that this is it - seven days, and we get to go on with our lives back to normal.
That may not be the case, unfortunately, and we all know it.
We will have to see how it plays out as the week goes on.
One can only hope, for our businesses, for our schools, our sports teams and, at the end of the day, our own sanity, we are back to normal by the end of the week.
So, let's do our bit.
Get tested if you're sick (I've done it twice now, it's honestly not that bad).
And please, if you are eligible, get vaccinated.
It's all very simple stuff.
Take care of yourself and each other so we can get back to normality.
