WHEN the virus first came around, I urged people to follow the health advice and get tested if they felt unwell.

But you have to take your own advice, so when I got sick, I got the test.
On Wednesday, I urged that if you could get vaccinated, to please do so.
Well, Echuca Regional Health is allowing anyone to get the AstraZeneca jab, and has publicly advertised that if you want it, come and get it.
Well, I have to play by my own rules, don't I?
So, on Wednesday, I went for my lunch break at work.
And I took it by heading to ERH.
Upon arrival, I was walked down the corridor by a member of staff and handed some paperwork to read.
The big thing they wanted to point out was the risk of clots — and I want to talk about that.
Is there a risk? Yes.
The risk of getting a clot from the vaccine, however, is substantially lower than from COVID itself.
It's incredibly low — lower than many medications people reading this would be taking right now.
The wonderful lady who vaccinated me wanted me to mention that it's substantially lower than the birth control pill.
Naturally, I'm not on the pill, but it's nice to know anyway.
So, in went the shot as I snuck a quick selfie to confirm as much.
From there, I spent 15 minutes in the waiting room just to make sure I was feeling fine (which I was) and then I went back to work, where I am now writing this.
I was given a list of things to keep a lookout for, which I will.
I'm not afraid of the side effects.
If they come, that's unfortunate.
But this is my responsibility.
It's all of ours.
We all need to look after each other.
If we don't want to be in lockdowns, if we want to get on with our lives, this is how we do it.
You don't need me to tell you, there are far smarter people out there who can explain the science (science is fact, by the way, not an opinion up for debate like some geeks on the internet would suggest through their lies).
But I will still try.
Do your bit for our community.
Please.
