Two male officers from Murray River Police District were patrolling Redgums Dve, Moama, when they noticed a man running out of a shed towards a white Ford Falcon utility, about 11.30 pm on April 4.
As police approached, the man, armed with a rifle, entered the ute and drove towards the marked police car, ramming it several times before reversing through a metal fence.
Murray River Police District western sectors Inspector Paul Huggett said police were still appealing for information, and CCTV footage had been released on the Murray River Police District Facebook page.
The man was described as being about 175 cm tall, wearing dark clothing with his face covered by a balaclava.
The ute, with stolen Victorian registration plates, was seen driving in an easterly direction along Perricoota Rd after the incident.
The officers were not injured during the incident and the police car sustained minor damage.
Insp Huggett urged community members to report suspicious behaviour when it happened.
“The public are the eyes and ears of the police force,” he said.
“You can report anonymously on Crime Stoppers or by calling 1800 333 000.
“If the public aren’t being part of the solution by ringing and reporting suspicious behaviour, in essence they’re condoning it and hamstringing their police.”
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online at nsw.crimestoppers.com.au
