Courtroom twist: charges dropped

Three charges against a Shepparton man have been dropped.

A man who was arrested inside a courtroom in February has had the charges he was arrested on dropped.

Jarrah Weston, 20, of Shepparton was due to front Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for unrelated matters when police arrested him inside the courtroom on February 13 on an armed robbery charge.

The arrest at the time drew the ire of the presiding magistrate, Olivia Trumble, who said it lowered the chances of getting him back there.

Later the same day, Mr Weston appeared before the court again in an unsuccessful bail application on charges of armed robbery, assault and being a prohibited person possessing a firearm.

The charges related to an alleged incident in Williams Rd, Shepparton, on January 31.

At the time of the bail application, Mr Weston’s solicitor raised questions about the witness’s descriptions of the offender, saying Mr Weston didn’t entirely match them.

On April 11 a prosecutor from the Office of Public Prosecutions formally withdrew the three charges against Mr Weston.

As such, he was also released from custody on bail.

Mr Weston will still face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on other charges that are unrelated.
