Cricket win turns sour with court appearance

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Brent O’Grady told the court Walia recorded a blood alcohol concentration on 0.144 when he was pulled over at 11.24pm on May 19.

The father-of-one had been driving a Jeep Wrangler in Wyndham St, Shepparton, at the time.

He told the police at the time he had “had like three drinks” and “thought I was fine” to drive.

Representing himself in court, the concreter said he didn’t really drink alcohol.

He said on the day he was pulled over he had been playing cricket and his team won and “the boys made me a drink”.

Walia was fined $250 and his driver’s licence was cancelled for 14 months.
